Conservatives believe government should live within its means, spend taxpayer dollars wisely, and focus on its core responsibilities. Few responsibilities are more fundamental than conducting free, fair, and secure elections.
As Treasurer of the Louisiana Republican Party, I understand the importance of accountability. Every dollar should be spent with purpose, and every investment should produce real value. That’s exactly why modernizing our election infrastructure deserves bipartisan support.
Louisiana is replacing voting machines that have faithfully served our state for more than 35 years. Like roads, bridges, and public safety equipment, election infrastructure has a lifespan. Waiting until systems fail is neither fiscally responsible nor good public policy.
The federal government has long partnered with states to strengthen election administration, and that partnership should continue. Restoring $400 million for election infrastructure in the FY27 Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Act will help states complete necessary upgrades while protecting taxpayers from bearing the full cost alone.
This isn’t about expanding government. It’s about ensuring government fulfills one of its most basic constitutional obligations. Modern equipment, stronger cybersecurity, and dependable election administration help preserve public confidence while protecting against increasingly sophisticated foreign cyber threats.
Republicans have always championed election integrity. Maintaining secure, reliable, and transparent elections requires more than good laws—it requires the tools to carry them out effectively.
Investing in election security today is an investment in the confidence Americans place in our democracy tomorrow.
